Enhancing the Gifts of Jupiter’s Change in Direction This Thursday!

Jupiter changes direction this Thursday, March 6th at 5:42 AM EST and 2:42 AM PST.  …from retrograde motion into a new, forceful, forward motion. This will feel new and different.

Jupiter has been retrograde since early November of 2013.  For the past four months we’ve been engaged in the process of absorbing and integrating the rapid emotional growth we experienced as the result of challenges we faced from the spring of 2013 well into the autumn season.  This process is almost complete.  On Thursday the floodgates open wide.  Once again, it’s full steam ahead.  We’re about to be challenged by new experiences, events, and changes that greatly expand our outer world.  And we won’t have time to catch our breath until December of 2014 at which time Jupiter will change direction again.

It’s nice how the Cosmos allows for periods of adjustment and integration, rather than driving us relentlessly.

When I constructed the chart for the time of Jupiter’s change in direction, the Santeria Ritual occurred to me, for a few reasons.  I’ve included the steps of the ritual below, in case you don’t already know it,  because I think Thursday would be the perfect time to enact it.

Rituals, in general,  are a great way to access the subconscious mind, joining personal intent with cosmic flow.  It’s been brought to my attention many times, though meditation is an effective way for me to access and connect with cosmic flow, its not the best way for everyone.  It’s nice to have options.

I first read about the Santeria Ritual in astrologer Carolyn Casey’s book,  “Making the God’s Work for You.”  It’s a Venus ritual designed to emphasize our connection with the goddess of love and the removal of subconscious obstacles that block the flow of material security, beauty, and the power to attract good things into your life.

Skip the following paragraph if you’re not interested in astrological technicalities.  The chart is posted below.

My reasoning, for anyone interested in the technical astrology, is as follows:  On Thursday, when Jupiter turns direct, Venus enters into the critical 0 degree of Aquarius, emphasizing enlightened thought, innovation, and inventive ways to turn the “lemons” of  life, into lemonade.  Venus in Capricorn, squaring Mars, and ruled by the Karmic energy of Saturn in Scorpio, may have increased fear over he past several months,  blocking emotional flow and our ability to attract good things.  Venus in Capricorn may have also highlighted ‘old money Karma’ increasing our sensitivity to the confusing restraints that seem to be operating in full force to prevent the free flow of resources into our life.  Confidence may be sagging. If you expect more of the same, that would constitute more blockage. But Uranus in Aries, ruling Venus newly in Aquarius, is strong in the “Jupiter direct” chart.  It exactly squares Jupiter itself, releasing a very dynamic, breakthrough kind of energy, especially when Jupiter stations.  Pluto in Capricorn, exactly sextiling Chiron, offers the opportunity for healing old Karmic wounds related to scarcity and fear.  And the North Node in Libra conjunct Vesta, highlights a passionate desire to strengthen our ability to attract what we desire.

The Santeria Ritual gives us the opportunity to work with energy on the subconscious level.  During the ritual, if the intent is to remove emotional blockages to the free flow of abundant material resources, the Cosmic wind, as reflected in the chart of Jupiter’s change in direction, will be at your back.  The first time I tried this ritual, some geese ate my roll…not in the script, but it worked anyway.

“The invisible world wants to help us,” declares visionary activist and astrologer Caroline Casey, “but spiritual etiquette requires that we ask.” One of the best ways to ask for Venus blessings is the Santeria Venus ritual (described by Casey in her Making the Gods Work for You.)

You’ll need a round piece of bread, like a dinner roll. Make a hole in it and put a nickel or five pennies inside (the number five is sacred to Venus).

  1. On a small piece of paper, clearly state your desires. Fold this paper and put it into the bread, on top of your nickel. Then pour a little honey on top of that (as Casey always says, “for obvious symbolic reasons!”).
  2. Finally, place a small candle in the hole (bigger than a birthday candle, but smaller than a taper). Casey suggests a yellow candle, though I’ve found different colors fun to play with.
  3. Light the candle. As it is burning, honor Venus: take a luxurious bath, go shopping, make love. Do something that makes you feel juicy, beautiful, pampered, prosperous, and happy. Like attracts like—a delightful like-minded mood attracts Venus like nothing else!
  4. When the candle is completely burned down, so that only melted wax is on the bread, take it to sweet flowing water—a stream or a river, but nothing salty like the ocean. Toss this now ritually potent (and fully bio-degradable) roll into the water, reciting an invocation, poem, or prayer of your choice.
  5. The goddess will respond to your desires in the coming weeks. She might fulfill your dreams in miraculous ways. Or she might play the trickster—revealing a blind spot that still stands in the way of your desires.
