Virgo Full Moon February 25, 2013 12:26 PM PST 3:26 PM EST

“The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures. It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.”
-Rabindranath Tagore

This is a stressed Full Moon, situated within a grand square – one big challenging astrological configuration –  a locked in moon that is being encouraged by multiple squares to take action.  Because it’s ruler, Mercury, is now moving in retrograde motion in the sign of Pisces, we are being encourage to move in an inward direction, deeper toward the mysterious source that keeps us spiritually alive. You may feel this outwardly as being forced in a direction that wouldn’t ordinarily be your first choice.

As always, at any full Moon, the Sun opposes it, providing reflection and unique perspective.  It’s time to bring something to a close and to release what keeps you from something vital. The Sabian Symbol for this Sun, A Girl Blowing a Bugle,  is a wake-up call to action – action that is feminine by nature because it’s a girl is sounding the call.  Retrograde Mercury, the Moon’s ruler, is symbolized by A Table Set for an Evening Meal,  further emphasizing the feminine qualities of abundance, nurturance, sensitivity, connection, prosperity, ease, fulfillment, pleasure, and satisfaction – qualities of being that now need to be fully awakened and defended.

The degradation of the feminine – women, the planet, food sources, the ability to nurture children, and the protection of the delicate spirit within striving to survive – is threatening life itself.  This is being felt globally, but also on a personal level as we continue to struggle with programming that assaults, devalues and weakens inner connections to the primal feminine source – the source of life.

Jupiter at 7 degrees of Pisces challenges this Moon and is symbolized by the image of Aroused Strikers Surrounding a Factory.  This symbol speaks to challenging entrenched authority when it no longer supports life.

Antares, the fixed star at 9 degrees of Sagittarius, traditionally known as Mar’s major rival, and therefore a major rival to the extreme masculine dominance threatening the world, further challenges this Moon to act to defend the feminine connection. Violence, satisfying self centered desire no matter what the cost,  and self-appointed authorities who work insidiously to promote disconnection, must be resisted on every level.

Antares echos Jupiter’s message.  Antares demands that we take a stand for truth against established conditions that are no longer in our best interest, that no longer support evolutionary freedom.

So what is the full moon attempting to express as it’s being squeezed by the demands of the Sun, Jupiter and Antares?  Picture the moon as a five year old taking her first dance class.  That is the image of this full Moon’s Sabian Symbol.  Amidst life’s challenges a five year old girl is being called to refine a primal urge.  Children dance before they can walk unassisted, before the established culture begins to control what comes naturally.  With dance lessons “constructive criticism” along with the acquisition of  coordination, grace, control, flexibility, and discipline comes often at the expense of the flourishing archetypal spiritual connections that inspired her to dance in the first place. The risk is that those will be tamed and weakened.

Isadora Duncan, the famed modern dancer, said the following  “The real American type can never be a ballet dancer. The legs are too long, the body too supple and the spirit too free for this school of affected grace and toe walking.”  Being American is not the point.  As a former ballet dancer, I get it.  Since I can remember I have never been comfortable with spontaneous dancing. Without memorized choreography, I’m a little lost.  I’m skilled enough to make it not appear that way, but that’s how it is.  A night of dancing at the club would never be my first choice. There’s a lot of deprogramming to do to strengthen connections with the original life source.  At this full Moon, however, there is the suggestion that we could undo a lot in a very short period of time.

There is motivation to focus and to see things as they really are, not as we prefer them to be.  Venus falls in the last critical degree of Aquarius. There is a sense of urgency to rebelliously embrace of the feminine, to clear the fields to allow Venus it to flourish, and to refuse to allow her to take a back seat to established norms. Fortunately a Virgo Moon knows how to zero in on the detail that every other sign misses.  She knows which small change will make the biggest difference.

At this full moon my feeling is that some intuitively guided physical action with the intention of restoring essential feminine connections would be most healing.  An appointment with a healing touch body worker, an intuitively guided solitary yoga session,  an intuitively guided hike to no predetermined destination, a swim in the ocean,  or something more thrilling. I’ll probably be dancing in a room by myself until I feel the rhythm carry me back to where I started. It’s certainly not my first choice, but as the symbolism implies, that could mean that I’m on the right track. The important part is always the intention.

The Full Moon Rituals you invent are always the best.  Timing them to correspond a few minutes after the  culmination of the Full Moon is powerful.  The timing for this Virgo Full Moon is 12:26 PM PST, 1:26 PM MST, 2:26 PM CST, and 3:36PM EST.  Check for outside the U.S. time zones.

Here’s to deprogramming, organized resistance, and restoring vital connections.

love, Holly
